India, Aug. 23 -- A generation that came of age amid Woodstock, campus sit-ins and the counterculture of the 1960s and 70s is rediscovering cannabis in retirement, and the drifting smoke is now fuelling a fresh wave of neighbourhood rows, court cases and calls to the police across the United States.

New research shows marijuana use among Americans aged 65 and older jumped by nearly 46 per cent between 2021 and 2023, according to a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine based on an analysis of the federally run National Survey on Drug Use and Health by researchers at the University of California San Diego and New York University.
