India, Aug. 17 -- Tommy John, the former MLB pitcher whose groundbreaking elbow surgery went on to transform baseball, has died at 83. John passed away Saturday night at his home in Bradenton, Florida, where he had been receiving hospice care following a recurrence of bladder cancer. He finished his 26-year Major League Baseball career with 288 wins and became the first pitcher to successfully return from the pioneering procedure that eventually took his name.
