India, Aug. 21 -- Veteran actress Sowcar Janaki, one of the most respected names in South Indian cinema, died on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the age of 94. The actress had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai after falling ill with age-related health issues.

59 pm, with the news of her death confirmed by Nadigar Sangam president and actor Nassar. In a statement, Nassar said, "Legendary star Sowcar Janaki (94) passed away. Her mortal remains will be placed at Centoph Road, Teyampet, from 5 PM."

Her death marks the end of a remarkable career that stretched across more than seven decades and included over 400 films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam cinema.
