India, Sept. 21 -- Dubai has entered 10 days of official mourning following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the younger brother of UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Ahmed died on Monday morning at the age of 76, prompting tributes from the UAE leadership and flags to be flown at half-mast across the emirate.

While his death has brought renewed attention to the Al Maktoum family, Sheikh Ahmed's public life extended far beyond his royal position. He held senior responsibilities in Dubai's security and military establishment and maintained a long association with football, horse racing and maritime sports.
