India, Aug. 20 -- Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar died at the age of 80 at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Thursday. Kumar was serving a life sentence at Tihar Jail after being convicted in a case linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The hospital had not immediately provided details about the cause of death. Kumar was a prominent Congress politician in Delhi and represented the Outer Delhi Lok Sabha constituency three times. His political career, however, was eventually eclipsed by criminal cases arising from the violence against Sikhs following the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984.
