India, Aug. 27 -- The death of Ratko Mladic closes one of the most closely watched chapters of the international justice process stemming from the violent breakup of Yugoslavia. The former general of the Bosnian Serb army, whose name has become synonymous with some of the atrocities of the 1990s war, died on the 27th of August 2026 while serving a life sentence in The Hague. His final years were marked by severe health problems and numerous attempts to seek release from prison, but for survivors and families of the victims, the passing of Mladic also sheds light on the events leading to his conviction and many years of fighting for justice.
