India, July 11 -- Randolph Mantooth, the actor best known for playing paramedic John Gage in NBC's iconic television series Emergency, has died at the age of 80. The actor passed away on July 9 at a hospice facility in Ventura, California, following a long illness, according to his brother.

Mantooth became a household name with Emergency, a show credited with introducing millions of viewers to the work of paramedics and emergency medical services. Beyond acting, he remained a longtime supporter of firefighters, EMTs and first responders throughout his life.
