India, Aug. 10 -- Ben Jones, best known for playing mechanic Cooter Davenport in The Dukes of Hazzard, has died at the age of 84. His wife, Alma Viator, announced his death on August 9, 2026, saying he suffered a massive heart attack at home.

Viator said Jones was sitting in his favourite chair and waiting for an Atlanta Braves game when he died. Her emotional tribute described the actor as someone who lived a "rich full life" and was deeply loved by his family and fans.
