India, July 31 -- Tahir Hussain, who was formerly a councillor with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots. The court declared Hussain guilty of the crime along with others who were charged with rioting, conspiracy and assembly superficially, while acquitting him of the charge of criminal conspiracy in this case. The prosecution had sought the death penalty, describing the killing as exceptionally brutal, but the court awarded life imprisonment.
