India, May 1 -- US President Donald Trump has named Dr. Nicole B. Saphier as his new choice for US Surgeon General, replacing the stalled nomination of Dr. Casey Means. The move comes after Means faced growing resistance in the Senate over questions tied to experience, licensing history and vaccine positions.

The Surgeon General may not control the full federal health system, but the office carries major symbolic influence. Often called "the nation's doctor," the role helps shape public messaging on vaccines, addiction, obesity, smoking, mental health, and emergency response.
