India, May 26 -- Murugan Ashwin, a Chennai-born spinner, has announced his retirement from domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League. Ashwin, who has played for several IPL franchises, including Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, draws a curtain on his cricket journeys just ahead of the 2026 playoff opener, Qualifier 1, slated to be held in Dharamshala on Tuesday. Ashwin, who has never donned the Indian kit, showed promise at an early age. However, his domestic career was also short-lived due to immense competition in the Tamil Nadu setup.
