India, Sept. 30 -- Morocco has entered a new political phase after King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the country's first woman head of government on Tuesday, September 29. The appointment came days after the September 23 parliamentary election put her Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) at the top of the 395-seat House of Representatives.

El Mansouri, a lawyer and former mayor of Marrakech who served as Morocco's urban planning minister, now faces the immediate task of building a coalition government. PAM won 97 seats, well below the 198 needed for a majority, making negotiations with other parties central to the formation of the next administration.
