India, June 19 -- Comedian Carlos Mencia has been arrested and charged with multiple felony tax-related offenses in California. The stand-up comic allegedly failed to report or pay taxes on more than $8 million in earnings over several years, NBC News reported citing prosecutors.

The charges were announced by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who described Mencia as one of the state's biggest tax offenders.

The 58-year-old entertainer has been charged with 12 felony counts in total of which six counts are related to allegedly failing to file personal income tax returns with the intent to evade taxes between 2019 and 2024. He also faces six similar charges connected to corporate taxes during the same period.
