India, July 17 -- Anurag Kumar, a senior IPS officer, has been appointed by the centre as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, bringing an experienced intelligence officer to lead one of India's most important police forces in the national capital.

A 1994-batch AGMUT cadre officer, Anurag Kumar has spent years handling national security and intelligence operations as Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Anurag Kumar's appointment comes amid evolving security challenges in the national capital, including cybercrime, organised crime, counter-terrorism and VIP security.
