WHO Declares Ebola Outbreak Global Emergency: Why Africa's Ebola Crisis Is More Alarming Than Hantavirus
India, May 18 -- The fear surrounding Hantavirus has started to fade, but now another deadly virus, Ebola, has emerged as a major concern. The World Health Organization (WHO), on Sunday, declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
The outbreak was first detected in eastern Congo's Ituri province and has so far resulted in around 88 deaths and over 300 suspected cases. Apart from Congo, the virus has also reached Uganda, where two laboratory-confirmed cases were linked to travellers from Congo, including one death in Kampala.
