India, May 30 -- In a significant public health initiative aimed at reducing the burden of cervical cancer, West Bengal on Saturday launched a statewide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign targeting approximately 7.65 lakh girls aged 14 years.

The newly elected West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, announced the vaccination campaign, which follows the national rollout of HPV vaccination earlier this year. This campaign aimed to support the efforts to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health threat.

Through this campaign, girls who are between the ages of 14 and 15 years will receive a single dose of the quadrivalent Gardasil-4 vaccine free of cost at designated government health facilities across the state.
