India, Aug. 27 -- Peter Cullen, the Canadian voice actor who died on Wednesday at his Los Angeles home aged 85, spent more than six decades lending his voice to some of animation's most recognisable characters, a body of work that stretched far beyond the Autobot leader he became best known for playing.

Cullen's agent, Kevin Motley, confirmed his death to entertainment outlets, though no cause was disclosed. In a statement carried by TMZ, which first reported the news, Cullen's family said he had passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, and asked fans to honour his memory by leading with "compassion, integrity and loyalty," echoing the gentle-hero spirit he brought to his most famous role.
