India, May 4 -- In what is being described as the most emotionally charged contest of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, Ratna Debnath, the mother of the postgraduate trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College, has officially entered the race.

Contesting on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, Debnath is taking a direct stand against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Panihati, turning the suburban constituency into a quest for justice.
