India, Aug. 14 -- Former NFL running back and Super Bowl champion Wendell Smallwood Jr. has reportedly been granted an early release from prison so he can spend time with his 8-year-old daughter, Mila, who is battling a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer. Smallwood has been incarcerated since 2024 after being convicted on fraud and gun possession charges.

Mila was diagnosed earlier this year with diffuse anaplastic Wilms tumor, a rare type of childhood cancer. Doctors reportedly believe she may have only days or weeks left, prompting the decision to allow Smallwood to be by his daughter's side during what is expected to be her final days.
