India, May 20 -- India is witnessing two sharply contrasting weather systems at the same time. Northern and central states continue to battle severe heatwave conditions, while southern states are seeing widespread rainfall linked to the advancing southwest monsoon. Temperatures in several cities have crossed 45degC, with Banda in Uttar Pradesh touching a dangerous 47.6degC while, Kerala and coastal Karnataka are receiving consistent rain activity, signalling that monsoon conditions are strengthening earlier than usual.
