India, June 8 -- A major industrial tragedy struck the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), also known as the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh, on Monday evening after a violent explosion involving molten steel led to the death of at least eight workers and left several others injured.

Accident occurred at the Steel Melting Shop (SMS)-2 and STC-3 sections of the plant when a ladle carrying extremely hot molten steel reportedly exploded during a lifting operation. The sudden failure of the container triggered a massive spill of superheated metal across the work area, catching workers off guard.
