India, Aug. 5 -- Virginia Democrats went to the polls on Tuesday to pick nominees for two hard-fought House seats, closing out a primary season upended months earlier when the state's Supreme Court threw out a Democratic-drawn congressional map designed to hand the party as many as ten of Virginia's eleven districts.

Virginia's primaries, ordinarily held in June, were pushed back to August this year to accommodate the redistricting push, which voters had narrowly approved before the courts intervened. With that plan dismantled and the state reverting to its existing map, both parties are instead concentrating their resources on two long-established swing districts, according to NBC News.
