India, Sept. 7 -- Carlos Alcaraz got an unexpected surprise during his post-match interview after reaching the US Open quarterfinals. Speaking live on ESPN following his win over Tommy Paul, the defending champion appeared stunned when he was told that his next opponent would be either Ben Shelton or Stefanos Tsitsipas, as he had mistakenly believed he would be facing Frances Tiafoe.

Alcaraz had just walked onto the ESPN set when 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick asked him about the challenge awaiting him in the quarterfinals. The Spaniard quickly realised that his bracket had taken him in a different direction than he expected, setting up a clash with either Shelton or Tsitsipas in the next round.
