India, Oct. 11 -- The US military has struck and disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly failed to comply with warnings over Washington's naval blockade of Iranian ports, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday.

The incident adds to mounting pressure on commercial shipping around Iran, with restrictions on maritime traffic continuing to affect movement through the Gulf of Oman and the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, a US fighter jet struck the stern of the Panama-flagged vessel, identified as the M/V Ocean Molica, also known as the Arika Sun, using a precision munition.
