India, April 23 --  The United States has sharply escalated its naval posture in the Strait of Hormuz after fresh threats linked to mine activity in the region. US President Donald Trump announced a direct order to the Navy to target boats suspected of placing mines, signalling a tougher military stance even as diplomatic efforts continue.

The move comes at a time when tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, with several shipping incidents, tanker seizures, and stalled negotiations raising fears of further conflict. The Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial global shipping route, carrying nearly one-fifth of the world's oil supply, making every development there closely watched worldwide.
