India, April 30 -- In a significant legislative victory for Republicans, the US House of Representatives has passed a three-year reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) on Wednesday.

The 235-191 vote follows weeks of intense internal GOP negotiations and multiple failed starts that threatened to let the controversial spy program expire. However, the bill now moves to a sceptical Senate where both privacy hawks and rivals have signalled significant opposition. Both parties are opposing the House's added ban on a central bank digital currency.
