India, July 26 -- The UN's new AI governance mechanisms mark progress, but their success will depend on accountability and enforcement.
Given that artificial intelligence (AI) is not merely a technology but a contest over thought, identity, and power, the United Nations (UN) might seem an unlikely battleground for our collective future. It is slow where AI is fast, consensual where AI is disruptive, and chronically underfunded where AI is awash in capital. Yet that mismatch is precisely the point.
