India, June 2 -- UK Athletics has been hit with a major financial penalty after accepting responsibility in a tragic case that led to the death of a Paralympian during training. Abdullah Hayayei, a 36-year-old father of five representing the United Arab Emirates, suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a metal pole while preparing for a shot put session at Newham Leisure Centre in east London on July 11, 2017.

The case has now resulted in UK Athletics acknowledging its role in the incident, bringing renewed attention to the safety standards in place at training facilities and the devastating consequences of the accident.
