India, May 25 -- The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government on Monday introduced the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026, in the Assam Assembly. This is a huge legal and political development in the state after the new government take place. If the UCC Bill 2026 is passed, Assam will become the third state in the country, after Uttarakhand and Gujarat, to bring in a state-level UCC framework. Atul Bora, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, introduced the bill on behalf of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the first session of the newly formed 16th Assam Assembly.
