India, Sept. 1 -- Nearly three decades after Tupac Shakur was killed in a Las Vegas drive-by shooting, the long-running murder case has finally resulted in a conviction. Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, was found guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon in connection with Shakur's 1996 killing. The verdict marks the first conviction in the case, which remained one of the most closely watched unsolved murders in hip-hop history.

Davis, 63, had pleaded not guilty and maintained that his public accounts of the shooting had been exaggerated. He said after the verdict that he planned to appeal.
