India, Oct. 14 -- US President Donald Trump has drawn severe criticism after taunting a demonstrator who was physically assaulted by an audience member during a midterm campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday. The altercation, which took place in full view of the stage, saw an attendee strike a female protester in the face before security escorted her from the arena, whilst the president smiled, levelled unsubstantiated accusations, and mocked her physical appearance before a cheering crowd.

The confrontation highlights the persistently volatile atmosphere surrounding high-profile campaign stops as the nation barrels toward contentious congressional elections.
