India, Aug. 25 -- The Supreme Court cleared the way on Monday for US President Donald Trump's administration to move forward, for now, with sweeping new restrictions on mail-in balloting ahead of November's midterm elections, lifting a lower-court injunction that had blocked key parts of the plan across 23 states and Washington DC.

The unsigned order, backed by the court's six conservative justices against the three liberal justices, pauses a ruling issued in June by US District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston, who had halted the administration from acting on the president's directive while a coalition of mostly Democratic-led states challenged it in court.
