India, Aug. 29 -- Days after the death of Shelley Fabares, the actress best known for The Donna Reed Show and Coach, her family has revealed what led to her passing at the age of 82.

Fabares died of pneumonia following a brief illness, her family confirmed to PEOPLE and other outlets. The actress had previously battled autoimmune hepatitis and underwent a liver transplant in October 2000 after being on the waiting list for nearly two years.
