India, Aug. 2 -- Celebrated Nepali-British mountaineer Nirmal Purja, who set a world record by climbing all 14 of the world's highest peaks in just over six months, has died in an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak, his expedition company confirmed yesterday. Purja, 43, popularly known as "Nims Dai", was leading an international team attempting to summit the 8,051-metre Broad Peak without supplementary oxygen when an avalanche struck on Thursday. The group of 10 climbers included six Nepalis and mountaineers from Pakistan, Oman, the United States and China.
