India, Sept. 26 -- PV Sindhu will take on Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki in the women's singles Round of 16, or pre-quarterfinal, at the Asian Games 2026 on Saturday, September 26. Sindhu entered the individual competition with a bye in the opening round and then defeated Chinese Taipei's Chiu Pin-chian 21-19, 21-14 in the second round earlier in the morning. She will now face Miyazaki for a place in the quarterfinals.

The two-time Olympic medallist Indian is looking to add another Asian Games singles medal to her collection. Sindhu won silver at Jakarta 2018, where she became the first Indian badminton player to reach the Asian Games women's singles final.
