India, Aug. 11 -- Skywatchers are in for a rare celestial double feature on August 12, 2026, when a solar eclipse will be followed just hours later by the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. The coincidence is being described as one of the biggest stargazing opportunities of 2026.

When Will the Perseid Meteor Shower Peak?

The Perseids are expected to reach peak activity on the night of August 12 into August 13, with the best viewing generally occurring after midnight and before dawn.

The shower is especially promising this year because it coincides with a New Moon, meaning there will be very little moonlight to wash out the fainter meteors.
