India, April 25 -- OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, issued a formal apology on Friday following revelations that his company failed to alert law enforcement about the ChatGPT account of a person who later carried out a mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
Altman's apology comes as British Columbia Premier David Eby described the AI firm's inaction as a "missed opportunity" to prevent the tragedy.
In a letter addressed to the Canadian community and posted to social media by provincial leadership, Altman expressed "deepest condolences" for the February 10 attack, which resulted in the deaths of eight people, including six children and an educator. At least twenty-five people were also injured in the attack.
