India, June 6 -- NASCAR lost one of its most respected figures as Hall of Famer Ned Jarrett breathed his last at the age of 93 at his home in North Carolina. A two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jarrett enjoyed a decorated racing career that featured 50 victories, establishing him as one of the sport's all-time greats. His standout 1965 season was laced with 13 race victories despite coming back from a serious back injury suffered in a crash.

Jarrett retired from full-time competition in 1966 at just 34 years old after Ford withdrew its factory support from NASCAR. He later started a new chapter as a broadcaster and had been a popular and influential voice in stock car racing for decades.
