India, Aug. 18 -- The search for missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie has taken another unexpected turn after authorities discovered what appear to be human remains in a remote desert area about 15 miles from her home. But investigators say the discovery has not produced a breakthrough in the case, with officials finding no indication so far that the bones belong to Guthrie.

The remains were discovered near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in the Tucson area, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department. Authorities said the bones appeared to have been at the location for an extended period and stressed that there is currently no evidence connecting them to the investigation into Guthrie's disappearance.
