India, July 13 -- The box office run of Michael has reached a historic milestone. The Michael Jackson biopic has officially crossed USD 1 billion at the worldwide box office. With this, it has become the first biographical film in cinema history to achieve the feat.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael has earned USD 629.8 million internationally and USD 371.8 million in North America. Its worldwide collection now stands at USD 1.001 billion, Variety reported.

The film had already made headlines with its massive opening weekend by collecting USD 217 million globally, the biggest debut ever for a musical biopic. It has since continued its remarkable run despite facing production controversies and mixed critical reviews before release.
