India, Oct. 11 -- The occult practices centred around Mayong and the one-horned rhino population of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary have come together to make the region a keytourist destination in Assam.

For generations, Mayong has lived in the popular imagination as India's land of magic. Stories of tantra, mantra, occult practices and folklore have shaped the identity of this village in Assam's Morigaon district. For many outsiders, that mysterious image was also a reason to stay away.

Today, Mayong is witnessing another change. A place once known mainly for tantra and magic is now emerging as a tourism destination.
