India, Sept. 6 -- Marvel Comics has formally replaced Marc Spector as Moon Knight, killing off the character at the end of a long-running arc and installing a new avatar of the vengeful Egyptian moon god Khonshu in his place, even as the hero's live-action counterpart remains sidelined from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming Avengers instalments.

Spector's death played out across Moon Knight issues 28 through 30, written by Jed MacKay with art by Alessandro Cappuccio, culminating in his sacrifice to stop an explosion triggered by his longtime enemy Black Spectre.
