India, June 25 -- A large fire at the Monroe Energy Trainer Refinery in southeastern Pennsylvania triggered an emergency response on Thursday, sending a towering column of black smoke into the sky and prompting officials to advise nearby residents to remain indoors.
The fire broke out at around 11:30 a.m. local time at the refinery facility on Post Road in Trainer, a community near Marcus Hook along the Delaware River. The smoke plume was visible from miles away across Delaware County, drawing concern from residents and local authorities.
