India, June 30 -- Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer reached a historic milestone during his side's FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 clash against Paraguay in Boston. The veteran shot-stopper made his 23rd World Cup appearance, setting a new record for the most matches played by a German at the tournament after coming out of international retirement to lead his country once again.

However, the landmark proved to be Neuer's final outing on the international stage. Following Germany's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 40-year-old confirmed his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a remarkable career that established him as one of the game's greatest goalkeepers.
