The closure affected the stretch between Junction 10 at Urmston and Junction 11 at Eccles, with traffic unable to pass through the area while emergency services dealt with the scene.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a man in his 40s had died following the incident, while National Highways traffic officers managed the closure and worked to keep surrounding routes moving.
