Srinagar, Aug. 9 -- The ongoing counter-terror operation in the dense alpine forests of the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district has entered its eighth consecutive day, becoming one of the longest anti-terror operations in Kashmir in recent decades.

According to official sources, the terrorists engaged in the encounter are reportedly using steel bullets, escalating the threat level for the security forces. The gunfight, which began on August 1, has already left two terrorists dead and multiple soldiers injured.

The prolonged nature of the operation is attributed to the rugged terrain and dense forest cover, making the search and engagement more challenging.
