India, June 23 -- A heartbreaking incident has shaken the football world, with French player Kenzo Kies reportedly declared brain dead after drowning in the Rhone river near Lyon. The 21-year-old, who played in Ligue 2, was caught in a strong current during the incident and was pulled from the water before being rushed to hospital on Monday.

Despite medical efforts after he was taken in for emergency treatment, Kies could not be saved. The tragedy has left the French football community mourning the loss of a young player whose career had only just begun.
