India, June 1 -- Shock and disbelief have swept through the sporting fraternity at the untimely death of John Kear, former player, genius coach and highly-loved BBC Sport commentator, who unexpectedly passed away on May 31, 2026, aged 71. The Rugby Football League reported that the former professional footballer's sudden death came on Sunday afternoon, while on a train back to the north of England from Wembley Stadium, where he had energetically contributed to the BBC commentary panel for the Betfred Challenge Cup Finals just 24 hours prior.
