Is Indian Railways Just 269 Km Away From Achieving 100% Electrification? Here's All You Need to Know
India, June 7 -- Indian Railways is on the verge of completing one of its biggest infrastructure achievements. According to the Ministry of Railways, 99.6% of the country's Broad Gauge (BG) railway network has been electrified, bringing India closer to a fully electric rail system.
As of May 31, 2026, electrification work has been completed on 70,002 route kilometres (RKm) out of the total 70,271 RKm Broad Gauge network. This means only 269 RKm of railway tracks are yet to be electrified across the country.
