India, July 7 -- IOC lifts ban on Russian athletes: In an effort to get Russia back into the Olympic fold before the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, the International Olympic Committee temporarily lifted its suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee on Tuesday. The ROC was suspended in October 2023 for recognizing regional Olympic committees in the Russian-occupied regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.The IOC stated that although the ban had been lifted, its executive board had not yet made a decision regarding Russia's ability to fly its flag, use its colors, or have its anthem performed during the Games.
